Each pet in the table carries an editorial tier letter (S through F) stored with our roster data—93 species at last index, with most density in A and B. Placement is a site judgment of general usefulness for typical end-game gardens: income and mutation contribution, flexibility across weather, hatch cost versus payoff, and how often the passive stays relevant after patches. This is not a live community vote, poll, or ranked ladder with ballots. If the table UI says “community,” read it as shorthand for player-facing meta discussion, not as evidence of a voting system behind these letters.
Role strength versus tier letter
Tier answers “how broadly strong is this species?” Role answers “does it win the job I need tonight?” An A-tier Phoenix can beat an S-tier generalist during heat-focused weeks; a B-tier weather pet can outperform a higher letter when its named mutation window is live. Use the ability column to see the job, then the letter to estimate how often that job matters. Reading S through F without over-fitting
- S — frequent end-game starters; strong across multiple income paths.
- A — excellent specialists or near-meta picks; often best-in-role under the right weather or crop plan.
- B — solid mid-game and niche covers; still worth slots when cost is lower than S/A eggs.
- C–F — early progression, collection, or narrow gimmicks; keep if the ability uniquely solves a problem you have, not because of rarity alone.
When tiers move after patches
Letters shift when abilities are buffed or nerfed, when new mutations or weather favor a kit, or when newer pets raise the bar for the same role. After a content update, re-check species marked new and anyone named in changelog notes; the new pets guide covers recent additions before they settle. A pet that drops a letter may still be correct for your garden if you already own a strong hatch of it.
Trade-value limits of this list
Tier is species-level. It does not price age, mutations, toys, or hatch weight class. A Small-hatch S-tier and a Godly-hatch S-tier share a letter but not a fair trade. Always separate “is the species good?” from “is this instance good?” using the pet weight calculator, ability calculator, and WFL trade calculator. Listing prices also move with event supply; a tier letter is a starting bias, not a Sheckle appraisal.
