Build a roster from roles, not from rarity alone

Ability search is for lineup design: you need pets that cover specific jobs—mutation windows, weather synergy, hatch helpers, sell buffs, protection—while your active slots stay limited. Rarity tells you hatch difficulty; the ability string tells you whether the pet actually does the job. Searching the 93-pet roster by keyword is faster than opening every species page when you are filling one missing role.

Query methods that match how the filter works

  • Ability keywords — match substrings in the stored ability blurb: mutation names (ember, tranquil, shocked), weather hooks (rain, aurora, heat), or mechanics (hatch, sell, growth, xp if present in text).
  • Name or slug — type part of the display name or URL slug when you already know the species but need its card and calculator links.
  • Rarity filter — common through prismatic, for budget ladders (“what rares still cover wet mutation?”).
  • Tier filter — S–F editorial bands from the same dataset as the pet tier list. Use tier to prefer efficient picks, not as proof a lower-tier pet cannot win a niche.

Combine filters when the list is noisy: for example, search mutation with rarity mythical and tier S/A when stocking an end-game aura team, or search hatch / speed-related wording without a tier gate when you only need temporary egg helpers.

Role-based roster building

  1. Write the roles you need this session (one primary income aura, one weather specialist, one hatch helper, one flexible filler).
  2. Run a keyword per role and shortlist 2–3 pets that share that job language.
  3. Prefer pets whose ability text names the mutation or weather you actually farm; a high tier with a mismatched passive wastes a slot.
  4. Open pet pages for hatch weight and detail, then send candidates to the ability calculator via the “Ability calc →” link (?pet=slug) to compare aged power once mutations and toys enter the plan.

Interpreting results and data limits

Each card shows name, editorial tier badge, rarity, and the ability summary stored in our pet data. Result count is “pets matching the filter,” not a live server census. Ability strings are concise references—they may omit exact percentages, cooldowns, or patch-specific wording that appears in the client. If a search for a mechanic returns nothing, the roster may describe that effect with different vocabulary, or the passive may live only on a pet detail page you have not indexed yet.

Do not treat empty results as “no pet does this in-game.” Cross-check new or reworked species after updates, and use weight/trade tools separately: search finds role candidates; weight classification and market prices decide whether a specific hatch is worth keeping.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a pet by ability?

Our database includes every pet in the June 2026 roster with abilities, tier, rarity, and links to calculators.
