Grow a Garden Hedgehog

Hedgehog exists for gardens that keep losing progress to pest events — Spike Ball’s job is deflection across the garden, not a single-crop scare like Kitten Pounce.

Quick stats

Hedgehog weight progression

Hedgehog hatches at 0.9 kg and grows with the formula W = (hatch ÷ 11) × (age + 10). The table below projects its weight at each age milestone so you can plan trade timing and weight targets.

Hedgehog weight by age
AgeProjected weight
Age 10.90 kg
Age 252.86 kg
Age 504.91 kg
Age 756.95 kg
Age 1009.00 kg

Playstyle

Deploy Hedgehog when pest events are the failure mode you actually see. Editorial tier B rare means the site ranks it as solid utility without calling it a mutation carry. Leave Ladybug on disease-prone flower rows if disease debuffs are a separate problem; Spike Ball does not claim to block disease. Age toward mid-life if you want weight proof for trades, but the ability text emphasizes pest-event deflection rather than sell multipliers.

Weight & trading

Rare hatch weight is only 0.9 kg — light beside Otter or Koala. Projected weight: age 40 ≈ 4.1 kg and age 100 = 9 kg using (0.9 ÷ 11) × (age + 10). Do not discard a high-age Hedgehog solely for a light hatch; the roster never says Spike Ball scales only with kilograms.

Spike Ball deflects pest events from the garden. That is the full mechanical claim in pets.ts. It does not list proc percent, immunity duration, or interaction with player-made toxic spread from Plague Rat Contagion. Keep Kitten if you still need a reactive single-crop clear and the event volume overwhelms one rare slot — the abilities address pest pressure differently.

Hedgehog in Grow a Garden

Pest channel versus disease channel

Grow a Garden content on this site treats pest events and disease debuffs as separate pressures. Hedgehog is written for pests; Ladybug Pest Control is written for disease prevention. Running both is a coverage choice, not redundancy, when your plot takes both hit types.

Turtle Shell Shield covers a weather debuff angle instead. A compact defense trio — Hedgehog, Ladybug, Turtle — maps cleanly to pest, disease, and weather without inventing extra layers.

Why light rare pets still hold slots

Players scanning hatch weight charts sometimes underrate 0.9 kg rares. Spike Ball’s value is prevented loss on vulnerable long grows, which never appears as a mutation multiplier on a calculator preset.

Editorial tier B is not a trade floor. Someone mid-event who just lost a row to pests may pay attention to a documented Spike Ball pet even when weight-flex buyers ignore it.

Common questions

Can Spike Ball replace Ladybug on flower rows?
Only if disease debuffs are not your problem. Spike Ball targets pest events; Pest Control prevents disease applications. Flower farms that see both still want both species or an equivalent split.
Does a light hatch weight make Hedgehog bad at age 80?
Age 80 still yields (0.9 ÷ 11) × 90 ≈ 7.4 kg. The ability text does not require heavy classification. Judge the pet by pest pressure on your plot, not by hatch flex alone.
